A. Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers, represent positive and negative on a horizontal or vertical number line. Students will be able to:
- model situations in which opposite quantities make zero
- understand p+q = 0 as a number located /q/ from p in the positive or negative direction
- subtraction is an additive inverse, p-q = p + (-q)
- multiplication is extended from fractions to rational numbers, properties of operations, and rules of signed numbers
- integers can be divided -(p/q)=-p/q=p/-q
- apply properties of operations
- Convert rational numbers to decimals using long division; know that decimal form of rational numbers terminates in zero or eventually repeats
